Adult carriers hand-deliver your material directly to the door, attaching it to a doorknob, storm door, or hand railing in a secure manner, either by rubber band or plastic bag. Carriers are trained to fasten all materials in a visible location from the street, allowing our field crew supervisors to monitor the delivery as it progresses. Other methods include posting, with our fleet of right-hand drive vehicles, which enable our carriers to attach materials securely to the mailbox post. With apartments, we use the same delivery method as the U.S. Postal Service, offering a percentage dropped to each unit, or complete elimination from the project (studies indicate that not every tenant picks up third-class mail when delivered, so this could result in savings or a refocused effort elsewhere).

Independent Delivery Service was founded in October of 1973 by its president, Michael Depe. The company was formed to provide an alternative distribution of second-, third- and fourth-class mail for businesses requiring First Class distribution services in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul seven-county metro area. An immediate need was evident, and the company began to grow rapidly. Our customers liked the high-quality service at affordable rates.

Today, Independent Delivery Service is one of the largest private postal systems operating in the country. More than 70 men and women are employed full time, using a fleet of more than 30 vehicles. Delivering more than 30 million pieces per year, we are providing quality service for more than 300 clients.

Due to continuing demand, we are expanding our operation. Account representatives and delivery personnel, as well as additional vehicles, are being added constantly to serve the ever-growing needs of our clients.
